The long awaited development of Barn Elms Playing Fields is nearing completion with the application for planning permission being made in June 2010 and work due to commence in early 2011. The cost of the Barn Elms Development is £2.1m and due to the combined efforts of users and the community (represented by Barn Elms Sport Trust, now a registered charity) with full support from LBRuT, over £1.7m has been pledged from various sports funding organizations as well as contributions from users, local charitable trusts and the community.
The new development includes a new pavilion with 6 changing rooms, community area and up to date amenities and the playing fields have been re-planned to provide:
- 2 rugby pitches,
- 15 football pitches - 5 senior, 2 junior and 8 mini pitches,
- 2 cricket squares; and
- 6 new tennis courts.
The 6 lane running track is also maintained in the scheme and has recently benefitted from a deep clean of the lanes to improve what is a rare yet under used facility.
We still have a sizeable funding gap and we are looking for the support of all clubs and their members using Barn Elms Playing Fields.
